These uninhabited, barren, sub–Antarctic islands were transferred from the UK to Australia in 1947. Populated by large numbers of seal and bird species, the islands have been designated a nature preserve.

The islands are in the Indian Ocean, about two–thirds of the way from Madagascar to Antarctica.

To ensure accuracy of information, timegenie.com contacted the Australian Antarctic Division . On January 3, 2005, a senior official confirmed that Heard Island and McDonald Islands are UTC/GMT +5 hours. Additionally, since the islands are uninhabited, the islands do not observe daylight saving time.
