According to Centro Nacional de Metrologia , there are four times zones in Mexico.

The three main time zones are, from west to east (left to right), Pacific Time, Mountain Time and Central Time. Most of Mexico is in the Central Time zone.

The fourth time zone is for the state of Sonora. The state of Sonora borders the state of Arizona which does not observe daylight saving time. By not observing daylight saving time, Sonora stays in harmony with the time in Arizona.

Pacific Time:

Baja California is the only state in Mexico that is in the pacific time zone. This is the same time zone as Los Angeles.

Sonora:

The state of Sonora uses Mountain Standard time all year.

Mountain Time:

A small part of Mexico is in the mountain time zone. This includes the states of Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Nayarit and Sinaloa. The Mexican island of Islas Revillagigedo is also in the Mountain Time zone.

Central Time:

The rest of Mexico is in the central time zone.

All of Mexico observes daylight saving time except, as mentioned, Sonora.

It’s worth noting that Puerto Vallarta, found in the state of Jalisco, is situated in the central time zone. Nuevo Vallarta, located 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, is officially in the mountain time zone since it is located in the state of Nayarit. Therefore, if you travel from Puerto Vallarta to Nuevo Vallarta, you will need to move your watch back one hour. However, you might discover that most people in Nuevo Vallarta will use the same time as Puerto Vallarta due to the fact that most tourists are unaware of the time change. So while Nuevo Vallarta is officially in the mountain time zone, many of the locals may use the central time zone.
