On May 1, 2005, Tunisia began observing daylight saving time.

Finding official and accurate information regarding daylight saving time rules for Tunisia can be difficult, but timegenie.com was able to find the necessary information.

timegenie.com first contacted The Tunisian National Tourism Office is late April, 2005, however, no reply has yet been received.

On May 3, 2005, timegenie.com contacted by phone the Tunisian Embassies in both Ottawa, Canada and Washington, D.C.. The embassy staff were not totally sure of the daylight saving time rules, but the staff of both embassies implied that Tunisia would follow the same rules as Europe.

Again on May 3, 2005, timegenie.com contacted the Tunisian Tourism Offices Abroad in both Montreal, Canada and Washington, D.C.. The Tunisian tourism officials at both offices informed timegenie.com that Tunisia decided late in 2005 to begin observing daylight saving time. As a result, in 2005 daylight saving time began on May 1. In following years, both tourism officials said that Tunisia will follow the same daylight saving time rules as France. Since France follows the same rules as Europe, Tunisia will begin observing daylight saving time on the last Sunday in March and switch back to standard time on the last Sunday in October of each yea.

Following independence from France in 1956, President Habib BOURGUIBA established a strict one–party state. He dominated the country for 31 years, repressing Islamic fundamentalism and establishing rights for women unmatched by any other Arab nation. In recent years, Tunisia has taken a moderate, non–aligned stance in its foreign relations. Domestically, it has sought to defuse rising pressure for a more open political society.

Tunisia is located in northern Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Algeria and Libya. Tunisia is the country in which some of the Star Wars movies were filmed.
