Newfoundland is a unique time zone in both Canada and North America. Newfoundland Time is 30 minutes later than Atlantic Time. Newfoundland Time does not follow the traditional time zones which go in 1 hour increments.

According to the National Research Council of Canada , the Labrador region of this province is on Atlantic Time. The exception to this rule are the communities between L’Anse au Clair and Norman Bay, which are on Newfoundland time. When viewing a map, these communities are located in the bottom portion of Labrador along the Strait of Belle Isle. These communities are located just above the top of the island of Newfoundland.
