Comments About Nunavut...

Circa 1999 Nunavut tried using only one time zone. However, a staff member at the National Research Council of Canada told timegenie.com that using one time zone was rather awkward for the communities in western Nunavut. This was due to the fact that many of the transportation links were, and still are, north to south. As a result, Nunavut reverted to three time zones which are, from west to east (left to right), Mountain Time, Central Time and Eastern Time.

In reverting to the three time zones, Nunavut actually dropped the fourth time zone which was the Atlantic Time zone. The Atlantic Time zone was dropped simply due to the fact that the communities opted for using Eastern Time.

All of Nunavut switches to daylight saving time except for Southampton Island which stays on Eastern Time all year. The main community on Southampton Island is Coral Harbour.
