After reading this guide to basic searching, feel free to learn how to do multiple city searching.

Here are some simple tips on how to effectively use timegenie.com's search engine.

No Results:

If you get no search results, it could be due to one of the following 3 factors:

  1. The spelling is incorrect.
  2. You have the correct spelling but we are using an alternative spelling.
  3. The city you are searching for is not in our database.

How To Improve Your Search Results — Search Tricks:

If you are getting no results, try searching for only part of the city name you are looking for.

For example, let's say you wanted to find the time in Thailand but you can't remember how to spell Bangkok. In this situation, do a search for only a portion of the city name such as Bang. This will provide you with a variety of cities that contain bang in their name.

The smaller the search phrase the more results you will get. The larger the search phrase the more compact the results. For example, if you searched for ban you would get more results that if you searched for bang.

Searches are case insensitive. It does not matter if you search in upper case, lower case or a combination of the two.

What's Not Allowed:

When searching timegenie.com, please ensure you do the following:

  1. Make sure there are at least 3 characters in your keyword
  2. Do not use characters such as ! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) _ + =

For the most part, only letters, white spaces and apostrophes are allowed in your search.

Database Search vs. Keyword Search:

The search engine used by timegenie.com is a database search rather than a keyword search.

A keyword search, such as what Google uses, looks for a word or a combination of words anywhere on a page.

A database search simply looks for a word in the database. Doing a search for current time in melbourne is not needed. Instead, simply do a search for melbourne. Essentially, you only need to enter a name because you are searching our database of cities, countries, states, provinces or territories.

Keeping It Simple:

Realizing that you are doing a database search as opposed to a keyword search, to get the best result, keep your searches simple.

Instead of searching for a city name followed by the state or province it is located in, just search for the city.

So instead of searching for Los Angeles, CA or Los Angeles CA just search for Los Angleses or search for California.

When you enter a comma (,) in the search phrase you actually initiate a multiple city search.

What To Do If No Results:

Please remember that timegenie.com is easy to navigate.

If you get no results from searching, use our world map to select a region, then a country. In this way, you will be able to easily find the city you are looking for or at least a city nearby allowing you to determine the time for the city.

Country, State or Province Search:

While timegenie.com's search engine provides the best results when you search for a city name, if you enter a state, province, territory or country name then you will still get results but the results will provide every city within that country, province, state or territory.
