Comments About... Syria

In an effort to gather accurate information regarding Syria, timegenie.com contacted the Syrian Ministry of Tourism on April 11, 2005, regarding daylight saving time rules for Syria. Unfortunately, to this date, no reply has been received. Next, timegenie.com contacted the Syrian Arab Association of Canada who suggested we contact the Syrian Embassy, which we did, but they were of no help.

Following this, timegenie.com contacted an actual Syrian individual who is most knowledgeable about his country. This individual confirmed that Syria follows the same rules as Europe regarding daylight saving time. The only difference is that Syria switches on a Saturday rather than a Sunday. Therefore, Syria begins observing daylight saving time on the last Saturday of March and ends daylight saving time on the last Saturday of October.

Following the breakup of the Ottoman Empire during World War I, Syria was administered by the French until independence in 1946. In the 1967 Arab–Israeli War, Syria lost the Golan Heights to Israel. Over the past decade, Syria and Israel have held occasional peace talks over the return of the Golan Heights.

Syria is located in the Middle East, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Lebanon and Turkey.
