In September, 2004, a Presidential Decree stated that Uruguay would begin observing daylight saving time. The date for the start of daylight saving time in the decree was September 19, 2004. The date for the end of daylight time was initially set to be Sunday, March 13, 2005, but this was later changed to March 26, 2005 .

Since Uruguay is new to daylight saving time, the dates when daylight saving time begins and ends may change especially since it is a Presidential Decree that determines the dates. As a result, there is no set rule or pattern at this time as to when daylight saving time begins and ends. However, based upon the dates chosen in the Presidential Decree, it appears that Uruguay will be switching to daylight saving time on either the third or fourth Sunday in September and it would appear that Uruguay will switch back to standard time on the last Sunday in March. These dates are only guidelines and are subject to change.
